People snore when their airway is partially obstructed and the air is forced to move through the narrowed area. This can be caused by a variety of factors, such as poor muscle tone in the throat, bulky throat tissue, enlarged tonsils, the nose structure, excess weight around the neck, blocked nasal airways, allergies, or a sinus infection. Additionally, alcohol consumption and certain medications can cause the throat muscles to relax and lead to snoring.
